A conditioner is a daily step that smooths and softens hair after washing, primarily at the surface of the strand. A treatment goes deeper: it targets the hair's internal structure, repairs damage at a cellular level, or works on the scalp rather than the hair at all. OUAI Bond Repair Balm, for example, actively repairs broken bonds rather than just coating the outside of the strand with something that makes it feel smooth temporarily.

Anyone whose hair needs more than shampooing and conditioning can (and should) give it a go.
