Straight Hair

Straight hair looks effortless. But getting it to stay sleek, non-flat, non-greasy, and somehow frizz-free still takes an actual routine. Our straight hair products are built around what straight hair really needs: volume without crunch, frizz control without weight, and shine without grease.

Use our Fine Hair or Medium Hair Shampoo and Conditioner depending on your thickness, our Leave In Conditioner on damp hair before anything else, and our Anti-Frizz Crème for 72-hour frizz control and heat protection in one product. And a drop of Hair Oil to seal and add the kind of gloss that makes straight hair look properly finished. As always with us,, these are all sulfate-free, paraben-free, and color-safe.

Straight Hair Products FAQs

What are the biggest challenges for straight hair?

Flatness and oiliness, mainly. Straight hair has no curl or wave to slow the transfer of scalp oil, so it travels down the shaft fast, which means roots go greasy faster than other hair types, and hair tends to sit flat rather than lift. Frizz is also real, especially for fine or color-treated straight hair with a more porous cuticle. The right routine addresses all three of these at the same time.

What products are best for straight hair?

A shampoo matched to your thickness. A lightweight conditioner from mid-lengths to ends only. Leave In Conditioner on damp hair as a base and heat protectant before styling. Anti-Frizz Crème for smoothness and long-lasting frizz control. And Hair Oil to finish (a drop through dry hair adds shine and controls flyaways without making hair feel coated).

How can I add volume to straight hair?

It starts in the shower. OUAI Fine Hair Shampoo uses biotin and keratin to build actual body at the strand level, not just at the styling stage. Apply conditioner from mid-lengths to ends only (putting it on roots is the fastest way to guarantee flat hair later down the line). Blow dry with a round brush or flip your head upside down for root lift. The Thickening Spray on damp roots before blow drying really makes a noticeable difference, too.

Why does my straight hair get oily so quickly?

Straight hair has no curl to slow oil down as it travels from the scalp along the shaft, so it moves fast. Regular washing with a gentle sulfate-free shampoo (without triggering the overproduction that happens when you strip the scalp too aggressively) keeps things balanced. The Detox Shampoo once a week resets a congested scalp really effectively.

Do I still need conditioner if I have straight hair?

Yes. Skipping conditioner causes frizz, breakage, and hair that doesn't move well. For straight hair, the key is the right conditioner in the right place: Fine Hair Conditioner for finer strands, applied only from mid-lengths to ends, rinsed thoroughly. And cool water rinse at the end closes the cuticle and adds the kind of shine that makes straight hair look finished.

How can I keep straight hair smooth and shiny?

Rinse with cool water after conditioning, as it closes the cuticle and adds real shine. Apply Anti-Frizz Crème on damp hair before blow drying. And finish dry hair with a drop or two of Hair Oil to seal the cuticle and add gloss. Don't over-wash, as natural oils are doing some of the work, and stripping them too aggressively makes hair duller, not shinier.

Can straight hair benefit from styling products?

Totally. Straight hair has plenty of styling options. It just needs products that enhance the style rather than weighing it down or creating stiffness. For straight hair in particular, we reach for the Thickening Spray to add body at the root for more lift.

How do I prevent straight hair from looking flat?

Use lightweight products and keep everything off your roots. Apply conditioner mid-lengths to ends only. Blow dry with lift at the root, not pressing hair flat. And don't rest your hair against the seat or your hands while it dries.
