YOUR FIRST TIME
During your first burn, you want to make sure the entire top layer of wax is melted all the way to the edge of the vessel. But this isn't the case for candles. If the first burn does not melt the complete top layer of wax it will form a “memory ring," causing a funnel effect.
- Light the candle
- Wrap a piece of aluminum foil around the edges of the vessel.
- Let the candle burn.
- Make sure the foil hangs over the built-up wax areas but leave an opening in the center so the wick can still burn properly.
- After a couple of hours, the wax should melt and even out the surface
DON'T BLOW IT
Blowing out your candle like your birthday cake might be fun but you can spray wax in your face and fill the room up with smoke. Blow no more! Candle snuffers are super inexpensive and help keep the integrity of your wick. No floppy wicks here! Snuff a’OUAI.
A HEALTHY TRIM
We know hair, and we know what a consistent trim can do for our hair. The same benefit can be applied for the candle wick. When you're ready to re-light, trim the wick so that ¼ of an inch is exposed through the wax. A wick trimmer, also inexpensive, is usually angled so it can reach into the vessel for an accurate trim. If you are not probably trimming your wick and notice a mushroom shape of carbon build up on the wick do not light it. Lighting the shroom can lead to a snap, crackle, pop and release soot into the air. This can also lead a black ring around the vessel. Not a good trip for your candle.
When your candle’s life is coming to an end the vessel's life is just getting started. Clean out the vessel and use it for make-up brushes, pens/pencils, art supplies or anything your heart desires.
