One spritz of OUAI anything conjures up breathtaking views of a white-sugar sand beach in St. Barth. Call it magic, but the four original OUAI scents were conceived after an arduous process of tweaking and re-tweaking by Jen Atkin and a traditional fine French perfumer.
Though if your tresses have ever had a taste of OUAI, they know that smell isn’t the only star of the show—their fierce functionality is also a headliner. Multi-purpose products with swoon-worthy smell that lend effortless hair anytime, anywhere? For a peek of how that perfection came about, we asked Jen about the inspiration behind the OUAI scents, and compiled a scent guide according to our products.
What were your sources of inspiration for the OUAI scents?
I worked really hard crafting the perfect scent, making the heart of rose at the center of each. I was inspired by fine French fragrances (as Paris is one of my favorite cities and where my husband and I had our first date), Hawaii (where I grew up), and the glamorous scents of the Middle East, where I travel frequently. I wanted to create a worldly line, and scent absolutely evokes our sense of memory.
I’m so shocked that everyone loves the scents as much as I do! So many products I’ve received in hair, bath, body, and hand care either smelled adolescent or too old. I find my favorites and mix them all together. I wanted the line to smell specially curated.
St. Barts- Inspired by our favorite trips to the tropics, this limited edition scent has exotic notes of Orange Oil, Ocean Breeze Accord, Dragonfruit, Sampaguita, Tuberose, and Musk.
Mercer Street – A sheer and airy floral/musky fragrance with notes of Italian Lemon, Turkish Rose, Jasmine Sambac, Iris, Lilly, and White Musk.
North Bondi – A beautiful floral fragrance containing notes of Bergamot, Italian Lemon, Rose De Mai, Magnolia, Lily, Blackberry, Violet, Cedar-wood, Amber, Patchouli, Sandalwood, and White Musk.
