OUAI Crush Madison Chertow's City Guide to Los Angeles
Ahead of our limited edition fragrance set launch, we’re tapping influencers in cities where famous streets inspired our trio of scents—Rue St. Honore in Paris, Melrose Place in Los Angeles, and Mercer St. in New York (learn more about each fragrance, here). Guiding us through the laid-back land of dreamers we all know as Los Angeles is Madison Chertow, a cool cat from the 'Bu whose forever-home (LA) fueled her foray into creative fashion and beauty blogging. Sit back, relax, and rummage through Madison's must-see spots in the celeb-studded sunny city, ahead.
I grew up in Malibu and moved to a cozy, little spot in Hollywood a few years back. I admit I absolutely am that LA cliché—juice-drinking, SoulCycle-ing, lounging at insanely beautiful coffee shops and strolling around Melrose Place while window shopping and lusting after everything Violet Grey has to offer. The lifestyle is as relaxed as people say, but I find so much inspiration everywhere here. LA helped me figure out exactly what I want to do, which is be an editor at a fashion magazine. This year, I started my own site called In Rainbows Mag, a blog characterized by a style I felt was missing in fashion and beauty. My goal is to make the art and culture section a cool platform for artists who deserve some serious spotlight. Now, back to LA, my favorite place ever. I want to share a few of my favorite LA spots not only to get to know me better, but for an idea about places you can't miss, if you only have a couple days here, or even a lifetime.
Highland Park "I’ve been so into this neighborhood lately. I spend a great deal of my time here since my boyfriend lives here, and it’s naturally become a second home to me. There are tons of great little restaurants, coffee shops and hidden gems. A couple of my favorites in the area are Kitchen Mouse for breakfast, Civil Coffee for pastries and lattes, and fun fact: there's a secret speakeasy deli hidden in the back of Tinfoil Liquor and Grocery—just ask someone at the register if they sell birthday candles, and they’ll take you back. I'm serious!"
Melrose Place "One of my most visited streets in Los Angeles is Melrose Place. I swear, If I had to choose one place to shop and drink endless coffee and tea, it’d be here. One of my favorite stores in LA is beauty store Violet Grey (I spy some OUAI in the window!). Also Chloe, The line (of course), and the super gorgeous Frame denim store are my favorites in the area. Don’t forget to grab a super fancy juice at Moon Juice before you leave!"
Bottega Louie "One of my favorites for breakfast, lunch or dinner, it’s the prettiest place in the heart of Downtown LA. Anytime someone from out of town visits or anyone asks for a recommendation for a quick and beautiful bite, I always say Bottega. Don’t forget to grab one of the colorful macaroons or fancy cakes on the way out, you’ll thank me later!"
Little Pine "Another dining favorite, Silver Lake's Little Pine is 100% vegan, 100% organic, and 100% insanely delicious. One of my favorite cozy breakfasts I’ve had in LA. And to make you feel even better about your brunch, all of the profits are being donated to animal-welfare groups."
Perfect Places to Chill
Chateau Marmont "Quite possibly my favorite spot in LA. I wish I lived here! I love how it feels so old Hollywood and special. Stop by Bar Marmont for a glass of wine."
Carasoin Spa "The best facial EVER. I’ve been going to Carasoin since I was 16 almost monthly, and have no plans of stopping ever. The most beautiful, cozy, and special skincare spot with the loveliest people making you feel beautiful and right at home."
General Lee’s "I'm not a huge drinker, but when I do sip, I really like to go to special little spots with a unique ambiance. I recently came across this hidden spot tucked away in the heart of China Town called General Lee’s. Think good music, tropical flair, in a historical location."
The Daily Planet "If you’re looking for the best magazines, cute gifts and super unique knick-knacks, you have to come here! I live pretty close to this spot and whenever I want to get a gift for someone (or myself) or a mag, I always come here first."
Fun Things to Do
SoulCycle "Before I ever came here, I never once could commit to working out in any form. I just couldn’t find something I loved to do and would commit to. I finally found the one workout that feels like the best dance party on earth, that I’m madly in love with—a spin class with David Zint at SoulCycle. I'm hooked."
Norton Simon Museum "I’m a huge museum go-er. I love all the options LA has to offer, but one of my absolute favorites is the Norton Simon Museum in Pasadena. If you love classic paintings and want to see some insanely gorgeous Van Gogh’s up close and personal, you can’t miss it."
