Hey there! I am Emily Chow. I am a Portland, OR native where I work as a full-time registered nurse as well as a beauty/lifestyle content creator on Instagram (@theemfiles).  As a full-time nurse and content creator, I know what it is like to be the girl on-the-go. However, being a boss babe does not have to mean sacrificing a good hair day. It's all about finding ways to save time and multi-task.

Here is how I prep and style for effortless, bouncy waves and how to transition that day 2-3 hair into a polished, chic pony later on in the week. Best part- all of these styles can be worn to brunch, work, and even the gym!

Step 1: Hair Prep
I always start the week with fresh, clean hair. I start by using the Christophe Robin Purifying Scalp Scrub with Sea Salt to detox and get rid of any product build up and control excess oil production. Then I move onto the OUAI Thick Shampoo and Thick Conditioner made especially for my thick hair.

Step 2: Curling Hair
After letting hair air dry, I prep hair with the OUAI Heat Protection Spray before using my T3 SinglePass 1.25" Curling Iron. Taking small sections, I alternate the direction of my curls until I get to the front pieces in which I always curl away from the face. And as tempting as it is, don't touch the curls just yet!

Step 3: Polishing Waves
Once curls have fully cooled, I use a Mason Pearson Wide Toothed Rake Comb to gently rake through the curls, breaking them up to look effortless and voluminous. I then use two pumps of the OUAI Hair Oil and apply to the ends for shine while warming the tiniest bit of OUAI Matte Pomade between my fingers to tame flyaways.

Step 4: Transitioning from Waves to Ponytail
Now we have the base for the perfect pony. However, transitioning to a ponytail can go from effortlessly chic to founding father and fast! Here are my tips to avoid the latter from happening.

I use the OUAI Texturizing Hair Spray to the ends to add texture as well as slight volume and hold.

Secure pony at the crown with an elastic. Loosen pieces at the top for volume and pull small pieces around the ear for an easy vibe. For a more polished appearance, take a piece of hair, a scarf or scrunchie/scarf, like I have here from Urban Outfitters, and wrap it around the elastic. And voila!
