How-To: Beachy Curls with Laura Vila
Hi there! I’m Laura Vila, @lauramvila, a Miami-based influencer and content creator. The warm weather in Miami is great, except for the fact that my hair hates the humidity! Today, I’m going to show you how I combat the frizz and my signature beachy curls.

I'm going for effortless curls that can be easily touched-up or left as-is! I have naturally slightly wavy hair and I’ve let it air dry today to keep heat to a minimum. I have my hair cut in long layers with shorter face-framing pieces for added dimension. When it comes to styling my thick hair, I’m always trying to combat frizz.
This is my go-to style since it looks polished, but doesn't take me too long to do. Since my hair is so long and thick, anything under 30 minutes is a win for me. Once my hair is completely dry, it takes me 20 minutes from start to finish.
This style can be done on either clean or dirty hair. Personally, I prefer styling my hair when it's freshly washed so that I can get the most life out of my waves before washing it again. (Usually 4-5 days with minimal touch ups. Less heat=less damage!)
Let’s get started! Make sure to gently comb through any knots you may have before you begin.
Next, I go in with my Dyson Corrale Hair Straightener to tame some of the frizzy/curly pieces along my hairline. This step is optional, but since my hair is so thick, straightening the roots helps create a smoother finished style. I avoid straightening my ends since I'm going to be curling those pieces anyway.
Once I’m finished using the straightener, I use the OUAI Wave Spray, which helps create a textured base for me as I begin curling. The added texture gives the curl something to grab onto since I'm working with freshly-washed hair.
Next, I begin curling with my T3 Micro Whirl Trio Wand (1 inch barrel). To avoid having to section off my hair, I place all my hair towards the front and move them towards my back once they are curled. I let the curl cool down before finger combing through to break up the pieces.
Once I finish, I add a dime size amount of OUAI Finishing Crème on my ends. It’s basically conditioner for your ends!
For the final step, I finish up with the OUAI Texturizing Hair Spray. I spray liberally all over, but pay special attention to the ends. While spraying, make sure to lift up the pieces to create volume and extra texture.
Shake your hair out and enjoy! :)
